Water collected on a basement floor beside a damp foundation wall

The inspection starts with where water enters and collects.

What Is an Interior Drain Tile System?

Interior drain tile is a water-management system installed along the inside perimeter of a basement floor. Drainage piping collects seepage and directs it to a sump basin, where a pump moves the water outside through a discharge line.

The drain, basin, pump, and outlet need to work together. We inspect the water entry and existing equipment before recommending the layout, so the plan addresses how water reaches your basement and how it will leave.

When Basement Water Calls for a Closer Look

The location and timing of water help identify the problem. A free inspection determines whether interior drainage is part of the solution.

  • Water returning after rainfall
  • A sump system that cannot keep up

Water where the wall meets the floor

Seepage along the perimeter can collect on the basement floor. We inspect the entry points and floor conditions before recommending a drainage route.

Recurring puddles or damp areas

Water that returns after rain may need more than a one-time cleanup. We assess the interior and related exterior conditions rather than assuming every puddle has the same source.

A sump pump without effective collection

A pump can only remove water that reaches its basin. Drainage may be needed to connect seepage areas with the pump, while the existing equipment is checked for suitability.

Persistent dampness or damaged finishes

Stained materials and damp finishes are reasons to investigate. Drain tile manages water; repairing affected finishes, cracks, or other damage may involve separate work.

How Interior Drain Tile Is Installed

Work is concentrated along the planned perimeter route. We explain the concrete opening, drainage materials, pump connection, and floor restoration before installation.

Stone bedding supports drainage before the perimeter floor is restored.

Open the perimeter and prepare the trench

A narrow section of concrete is removed along the agreed route, then a trench is prepared for the drainage system.

Concrete removal and access

The layout is planned around the foundation, existing floor, utilities, and access. We discuss which areas need to be cleared and how the work affects the usable basement during installation.

Place stone bedding and drainage pipe

Washed stone, filtering material, and perforated drainage pipe form the collection route.

Filtering and collection

The stone bed supports water movement and the filtering materials help limit sediment entering the pipe. Pipe selection, placement, and connections are specified for the installation. Additional stone surrounds the drainage line before restoration.

Connect and assess the sump system

The drain leads to a sump basin. We evaluate the existing pump and recommend additional or replacement equipment when needed.

An existing pump still needs checking

The pump, basin, and discharge route must suit the water-management plan. Having a pump already does not establish that it is correctly sized, working properly, or connected to all the areas where water collects.

Restore the concrete and check operation

The perimeter opening is covered with new concrete, and the drainage and sump connections are checked.

What the finished work includes

We review the completed installation, explain equipment operation and maintenance, and clarify any finish work included in the scope. New concrete can differ in appearance from the existing floor.

Manage Water. Preserve the Space You Use.

Interior drainage is part of a basement water-management plan. Related repairs address the conditions it does not solve on its own.

Reduce recurring water on the floor

An effective collection and discharge route helps move seepage toward the sump instead of leaving it to spread across the basement. Its performance depends on the complete system and the conditions it was designed to handle.

Address wall and foundation concerns separately

Cracks, wall movement, and damaged materials need assessment beyond the drain. A wall vapor barrier may guide wall moisture into drainage when specified; it does not replace a structural repair.

Maintain the sump and discharge route

Basement Interior Drain Tile FAQs

What does interior drain tile do?

Drain tile collects basement water along the interior floor perimeter and routes it to a sump basin. The pump and discharge line then carry collected water outside. It is a drainage system, not decorative floor tile.

Will the whole basement floor be removed?

The work generally follows a narrow perimeter route rather than the entire floor. Your plan explains the areas that will be opened and how the concrete will be restored.

How is the drainage pipe installed?

After concrete removal and trench preparation, washed stone and filtering material are placed with perforated drainage pipe. The line connects to the sump system, then the perimeter opening is restored.

Can you use my existing sump pump?

We assess the existing pump, basin, and discharge route. Equipment may be reused if suitable, or a change may be recommended based on condition and the water-management plan.

Does drain tile repair foundation cracks?

No. Drain tile manages water reaching the collection route. Foundation cracks, wall movement, and damaged materials may need separate repairs, which are explained in the inspection findings.

What protection applies to the work?

Your specialist reviews the applicable lifetime transferable warranty, written money-back guarantee, and five-star service guarantee. Your money is never at risk. TotalCare™ Maintenance is available for ongoing system care.
