Our Encapsulation Process: Why We Cut Vapor Barriers

Marcus Koperski of Crawl Space Brothers Greenville, South Carolina, is here to talk about one of the finer detail aspects of our process in this crawl space encapsulation video, cutting vapor barriers. Crawl spaces come in all shapes and sizes, so cutting vapor barriers to fit is common. However, we also cut the vapor barrier where the ground meets the floor and applied a separate piece to the wall. Although you may think if you could run the vapor barrier from the ground right on up the wall and not have to cut it, why wouldn’t you? In this video, Marcus will tell you exactly why we instead have to cut the vapor barrier there and why it’s better to in the long run!

How to Thoroughly Clean an Aprilaire Dehumidifier Filter

Having an Aprilaire dehumidifier for your home’s crawl space is excellent for improving the health of your home. When you need to maintain it, it’s simple with this video presented by one of Crawl Space Brothers Owners, Matthew Broussard! Matt will help you see how quick and easy it is to clean your Aprilaire dehumidifier’s filter is!

An Aprilaire dehumidifier in your crawl space has many benefits to the health and safety of your home for you and your family! Up to 50% of the air in your home comes from your crawl space! Your crawl space dehumidifier will control the relative humidity of your crawl space, keeping the air clean and pure in your home while preventing issues like mold and pests in the crawl space.

How Our French Drains Work

In this video, Crawl Space Brothers Cofounder Matt is back with an insightful video on how a french drain works in the crawl space. Although the french drain in this video is slightly different from what we offer for our french drains today, it is still an excellent example of how a french drain works and protects your home from standing water.

While most French drains simply use a perforated PVC pipe, as shown in this video, we use the YCS “Strip” Drain from American Wick Drain instead. This drain is covered in a non-woven fabric filter designed to stop dirt particles and ensure water can flow freely through the drain. With this drain type, there are two layers of protection from debris clogging the drain.

Our Encapsulation Process: Why Seam Tape is Important

In this video, Marcus from Crawl Space Brothers Greenville is back to tell you about the importance of seam tape. Marcus told you about why we have to cut the vapor barrier in the last one. In this video, we follow up on the next step with how and why we tape those cut vapor barriers. Seam tape is used to attach separate pieces of vapor barrier throughout the crawl space. Seam tape is important to the longevity of your crawl space encapsulation, and in this video Marcus explains how.
